New Year’s Resolutions

People write New Year’s resolutions every year. Some may focus on health goals, or habits while others may be career centered. However, all of these goals have one thing in common, they are made with the hope to do better than last year. Although this is a good reason to make resolutions, they usually fall flat within a month or two and people are back to their old ways. Why? Because the goals people set for themselves are generic and unplanned. Here are a few tips to help you plan New Year’s Resolutions that will stick!

  1. Personalize your goals!

Make your goals specific to you. Don’t just say that you want to lose weight or start eating healthy. Specify how you are going to do it and measure it in a way that works with your busy life! This will help keep you committed and honest about it.

  1. Write it down!

This helps make your resolutions a reality. Write them down and put them somewhere that you will see them every day. Reminding yourself of them often makes remembering your new behaviors more of a habit and less of a chore!

  1. Keep track of your progress!

How will you ever know if you achieved your New Year’s resolution if you never kept track of your progress? Whether it is in a journal, an app on your phone, or a chart you keep around the house, keep track of how well you are doing! This will also help keep you motivated by showing you how far you have already come!
