Ways to Portray Confidence

Exuding confidence comes naturally to some people, but for others, it can be learned. Exuding confidence and being confident are two different things, but portraying confidence can help build inner confidence. So while you’re working on building that inner confidence, here are a few techniques to help you portray confidence.

  1. Don’t fidget

Everyone fidgets from time to time and it’s not something to be ashamed of, although it does have impacts on the way others perceive you. Fidgeting is a sign of nervousness and can show others that you’re uncomfortable in a situation. So next time you have to be confident in a stressful situation, be aware of fidgeting.

  1. Mirroring

Mirroring is when you mirror another person’s body language, tone of voice, and language. People like seeing other people that are like themselves. So if you’re not sure how to act in a certain situation where you have to be confident, this is a great technique.

  1. Body language

Although words can be convincing, body language is the main indicator of confidence. If you take on a more confident stance, you’ll not only appear more confident, but you’ll start to feel more confident as well. Don’t try taking up as little space as possible and keep your head up high. You’re there for a reason and your body language should empower you.

  1. Eye contact

Keeping eye contact isn’t always the easiest, but when you do, it helps portray that you’re confident in your presence. Of course, don’t over-do the amount of eye contact you give. Excessive eye contact can be uncomfortable, so find a happy medium.

  1. Improve posture

Similar to body language, posture can be a huge indicator of confidence. Being hunched over does not portray the image you’re trying to convey, so always remember to keep a straight posture when you have to be more confident.
